Notice: George, IA Olga Hickman, age 98 of Mason City, IA formerly of George, IA died Saturday, January 28th, 2012 at the Muse-Norris Inpatient Hospice in Mason City, IA Funeral service will take place at 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 2nd, 2012 at the Jurrens Funeral Home in George, IA with Rev. Dan Kordahl officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George. Family will be receiving guests from 1:00 PM up to the time of service on Thursday, February 2nd at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George. Olga J. Hickman was born in Haslev, Denmark on October 30, 1913 to Viggo and Anna (Hansen) Jacobsen. She and her parents immigrated to the United States in 1916 and settled in Davey, NE. Along with a new little sister, the family moved to Clear Lake, IA in 1920 where her father worked as a carpenter and built many of the original homes on the lake. Olga received her education there and graduated from the Clear Lake High School in 1932. She went on to attend the Hamilton Business College in Mason City, IA and worked at the 1st National Bank in Mason City. On September 25th, 1944 Olga was united in marriage to Raymond C. Hickman while he was on leave from the United States Army. Upon his return from the war Olga and Ray moved to George, IA in 1945 and started a family. Three boys were born to this union; Jim, Jack, and Jerry. She and Ray raised their family and worked their entire careers in George. For many years, Olga worked at the Timmerman Insurance office in George and also the George State Bank. She and Ray were members of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in George. She taught Sunday school and Bible School and was the Sunday School Superintendent for several years. Olga was a 66 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary and also volunteered at the Good Samaritan Home in George for many years. She retired in 1978 while Ray continued working until in retirement in 1985. The couple continued to live in George until 2001 when they moved to the Sheldon Christian Retirement Home. With Rays health deteriorating and wanting to be closer to family, the couple moved in 2006 to the Summit House in Britt, IA. Raymond passed away in November of 2006 and Olga remained in Britt until 2010 at which time she moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City, IA. This past Saturday, January 28th, 2012 Olga passed away at the Muse-Norris Inpatient Hospice House in Mason City, IA at the age of 98. She will be greatly missed. Olga is survived by her sons, Jack (Joy) Hickman of Forest City, IA and Jerry (Mercy) Hickman of Chino Valley, AZ; 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Viggo and Anna Jacobsen; husband, Raymond; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Linda Hickman; grandson, Charles James Hickman; and sister, Elsie Hempel.
