Rock Rapids, IA Marjorie Kahl age 83 of Rock Rapids, IA died Thursday, October 8, 2009 at the Lyon Manor in Rock Rapids. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Monday, October 12th at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, IA with Rev. Dave Christenson officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids. Visitation will be Sunday, October 11th from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM with the family present from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. Marjorie Ann Kahl was born in Rock Rapids, IA July 10, 1926 to Albert E. and Anna (Johnson) Hagedon. She was raised and educated in Rock Rapids. In her early years she helped her father in the greenhouse he owned and operated. Later she worked as a waitress at The Grill Caf in Rock Rapids. On September 21, 1952 she was united in marriage to Phil Kahl at the Methodist church in Rock Rapids. The couple made their home in Rock Rapids. Phil and Marjorie owned and operated a poultry production and processing business that later expanded into fishing tackle and boats sales. The couple also owned and operated the Budget House Consignment Shop. Marjorie and Phil were members of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids and Marjorie served as a member of the ladies group for a time. She loved to garden. Camping and fishing were also favorite pastimes. But mostly Marjorie loved to be with and care for her family. Some of her fondest times were when family would gather for holidays. Her children and grandchildren will remember her as a loving and caring woman. She was very proud of her grandkids. She was a woman who was always interested in others. The staff at the nursing home described her as a sweetheart and she was never one to complain. It was easy to see Marjorie loved God and her family. When her husband Phil died she expressed how thankful she was to have had such a caring husband. This past Thursday, Marjorie died at the Lyon Manor Nursing Home in Rock Rapids at the age of 83. She will be missed by many. She is survived by daughter, Linda (Don) Dagel of Sibley; son, Randy Kahl of Rock Rapids; one granddaughter, Dawna Rosner of Sacramento, CA; three grandsons, Rich Dagel of San Francisco, CA; Ryan Kahl of Estherville, IA and Rolin Kahl of Milford, IA; sister, Clare (Dick) Kimmel of Arnolds Park, IA; brother, Duane Hagedon of Sioux City, IA; and other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 43 years, Phil Kahl; four sisters, twin girls (died in infancy), Katherine Abbott and Annabelle Kahl: and three brothers, Albert, Alfred and Ralph Hagedon.
