Donovan R. Peterson, age 62 of Sioux Falls, SD, formerly of Rock Rapids, IA died Sat., Sept. 10, 2011 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Thurs, Sept. 15th at Jurrens Funeral Home in Rock Rapids, IA with Pastor Randy Hogarth officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids, IA. Family will be receiving guests from 1:00 PM to time of service at 2:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. Donovan Ray Peterson was born on April 9, 1949 in Rock Rapids, Iowa the son of Henry Arthur Art and Anna Marie (Vande Vooren) Peterson. He graduated from Central Lyon High School in Rock Rapids in 1967. He studied at Ellsworth Junior College in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Donovan worked at the lumberyard (C.A. Peterson & Sons and later H.A. Peterson & Sons) owned by his grandfather and father. He moved to Sioux Falls in 1983 where he worked various jobs including lumberyard, hardware, auto sales, repair work, and special handyman services. He enjoyed serving people and he took great pride in doing quality work. Donovan was a man of strong faith attending the Methodist Church in Rock Rapids and a member of the New Day Church in Sioux Falls. He enjoyed sharing his faith with others. His favorite scripture verse was Romans 10:9. He is survived by his three children, son, Brian Donovan Peterson of Sioux Falls, SD; daughters, Brooke Gabrielle Peterson of Sioux Falls and La Rae Marie Peterson of San Diego, CA; and two brothers, Douglas Arthur Peterson of Ferndale, CA and Charles Dean Peterson of Fargo, ND. He also has a stepdaughter, La Donna Neal of San Diego, CA. Donovan was preceded in death by his parents, and one sibling, Thomas Dale Peterson.
