Rock Rapids, IA Hermina Boon age 81 of Rock Rapids, IA died Sunday, February 6, 2011, at Rock Rapids Health Centre in Rock Rapids, IA. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 9th at the Christian Reformed Church in Rock Rapids, IA with Rev. Cliff Hoekstra, officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery at Rock Rapids, IA. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2:00 " 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 " 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. Hermina (Kempema) Boon was born March 20, 1929, at Hull, IA the daughter of Jenny (Harmsen) and Ernest Kempema. Hermina grew up in the Hull area where she attended country school and later the Christian School in Ireton. On November 14, 1951, she was united in marriage to Berend Ben Boon at her parents home in Luverne, MN. Following their marriage Hermina and Ben lived for four years on the Boon home place near Rock Valley. In 1955 they moved to Rock Rapids. Hermina worked as a in home caregiver and later worked at the Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital as a Nurses Aid. After her daughter had an accident she stayed home to care for her. Hermina was a longtime member of the Christian Reformed Church in Rock Rapids. During her retirement years she would help as a volunteer at the local nursing home. She enjoyed reading, traveling, collecting nic-nacks, and especially her outings with her sisters. In December of 2010, Hermina became a resident of the Rock Rapids Health Centre in Rock Rapids where she died this past Sunday morning, February 6, 2011, at the age of eighty-one. She is survived by her children, Wendell Boon of Council Bluffs, IA; and Barbara Boon of Sheldon, IA; three grandchildren, Chistopher (Laura) Boon of Omaha, NE; Matthew (Jenna) Boon of Lincoln, NE; and Stephanie Boon of Omaha, NE; one great granddaughter, Ava Boon of Omaha, NE; siblings, John Kempema of Spirit Lake, IA; Ruth (Larry) Klingenburg of Worthington, MN; Jane (LeRoy) Koedam of Rock Valley, IA; and Eleanor Nyenhuis of Sioux Falls, SD; sister-in-law, Renzella Kempema of Sioux Falls, SD; and a special friend, Diane. Hermina was preceded in death by her husband, Ben; her parents, Ernest and Jenny; brother, Richard; and brother-in-law, Floyd Nyenhuis.
