Erwin Schubert

Ocheyedan, IA Erwin Schubert, age 90 of Ocheyedan, IA died Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at the Sibley Nursing & Rehab Center in Sibley, IA. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, 2007, at the United Methodist Church in Harris, IA with Rev. Chris Ebbers, officiating. Burial will be in the Ocheyedan Cemetery at Ocheyedan, IA. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-8 p.m. with the family present from 2-4 p.m. at the Walton-Roste Funeral Home of Sibley. Erwin Ervin Schubert was born April 27, 1916 on a farm near Harris, IA the son of Henry and Johanna (Helkenn) Schubert. Erwin grew up on the farm and attended country school. He graduated from eighth grade and then helped his father farm. In 1948 Erwin was united in marriage to Lucy Heida. They made their home near Harris, IA. In 1967, they bought and moved the family to the home place near Ocheyedan, IA. Erwin lived and worked there until his health required him to reside at the Sibley Nursing and Rehab. With great pride, Erwin was state plowing champion in 1965 and 1966. He had a love for the land and farming. He was a seed corn/bean salesman for many years and in turn made many lifelong friends. Many knew Erwin as a compassionate man, good neighbor, and friend. For fourteen years, Erwin was a caregiver to his wife, Lucy. He was like a second Dad to his three grandsons. Erwin was a member of the Harris United Methodist Church and the Odd Fellows Lodge. He loved playing pinochle as well as teaching the game. Erwin died this past Wednesday, January 17, 2007, at the age of ninety. He is survived by his daughter, LaDonna and her husband, Steve Bosma of Ocheyedan, IA; three grandsons, Christopher Bosma and his wife, Becky of Audubon, IA; Thad Bosma and his wife, Amy of Sioux Falls; and Noah Bosma of Sioux Falls, SD; along with four great grandchildren; one brother, Wayne Schubert of Sibley and one sister-in-law, Ruth Schubert of Lakefield, MN. Erwin was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Johanna; wife, Lucy; infant daughters, Faylene Beth and Cynthia Sue; one son, Terry Erwin; two brothers, Alvin and Dale Schubert and one sister, Elna Schubert.
