FUNERAL NOTICE: Ashton, Iowa Tena Lamfers, age 95 of Ashton, IA died Monday, February 11, 2008 at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 16th at First Presbyterian Church in Ashton, IA, with Pastor Dale Lint officiating. Burial will follow at the Gilman Township Cemetery in Ashton. Visitation will be Friday, February 15th from 2 " 8 PM, with the family present from 6 " 8 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Ashton. Tena Lamfers was born on November 1, 1912 at Bigelow, MN the daughter of John and Lena (Broesder) Venenga. On March 27, 1941, Tena was united in marriage to Ben Lamfers at Ashton. Following their marriage Tena and Ben lived in Ashton until Ben was called into military service during World War II. Tena worked as a Nurses Aid for many years and also worked for Brinkmans, candling eggs. After Tena and her husband Bens retirement they enjoyed traveling. Their travels took them to every state in the union, except Hawaii. Tena and Ben loved to feed the birds and squirrels and Tena continued this after Bens death in 2001. Tena was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Ashton American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends until the wee hours of the morning. Tena will be remembered for always having her door open for anyone who would want to stop by for a cup of coffee and her delicious cookies and cake. Tena is survived by her daughter-in-law, Margaret Lamfers of Ashton; four grandchildren, Lisa (Lyle) Huff of Ashton, Kevin (Amy) Lamfers of Princeton, IA, Keith (Joni) Lamfers of Alton, IA and Kim (Chris) Presthus of Ashton; ten great-grandchildren, Jeremiah, Benjamin and Brianna Huff, Andrew and Noah Lamfers, Libby and Jozef Lamfers, Ashley, Alex and Addison Presthus; three sisters, Frances Bents of Rushmore, MN, Bertha Schoeneman of Luverne, MN and Annie Kor of Marshall, MN; one brother, Dick Venenga of Sioux Falls, SD and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Ben in 2001; son Monte in 2005; three sisters: Jennie Henricks, Lena Lamfers and Dena DeBeer; and four brothers: Tom Venenga, Joe Venenga, Enno Venenga and Frank Venenga.
