Ashton, Iowa Lawrence Rensink, age 90 of Ashton, Iowa died Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon, IA. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 3rd at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Ashton, IA, with Reverend Dale Lint and Reverend Dan Kunnari officiating. Burial will follow at Gilman Township Cemetery in Ashton, IA. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 2nd from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Jurrens Funeral Home of Ashton. Lawrence Rensink of Ashton, Iowa was born on the family farm to parents Joe and Hattie (Scholten) Rensink on July 10, 1922. The farm was located in Grant Township near Boyden, Iowa. Lawrence attended Grant Township country school for eight years. He then attended two years of high school in Boyden, Iowa followed by two years of high school in George, Iowa. He graduated from George High School in 1940. Lawrence married Elaine Arnold of Sibley, Iowa on May 23, 1945. Lawrence and Elaine moved to Ashton, Iowa in 1945 and opened Rensink Hardware, which they operated for fifty-two years. Lawrence and Elaine were the parents of Lorraine Rensink Lange, Baraboo, WI, Paul Rensink, Spirit Lake, IA and Ruth Rensink, Eden Prairie, MN. Lawrence was a member of Ashton First Presbyterian Church. He faithfully served in the roles of Elder and Deacon. Lawrence was a past member of the Ashton School Board, the Ashton Town Council, and the advisory board of Northwest Iowa Community College. He loved his work and the northwest Iowa area. He greatly appreciated the support of his many customers and friends. He was a faithful caregiver to his wife Elaine, during her long illness. Lawrence valued his family and friends, his church and faith and his customers and community. Lawrence is survived by his children Lorraine, Paul and Ruth; his brother, Ted Rensink; his nieces, nephews and beloved cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-six years, Elaine; his parents, Joe and Hattie Rensink; his brothers, Bern Rensink and Howard Rensink; his sister, Wilma Tott; and nephews, Jerry Rensink and Randy Rensink.
