FUNERAL NOTICE: George, Iowa Martha Marney Martens, age 83 of George, IA died Friday, May 18, 2007 at her home in George. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, May 22nd at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church of George, IA, with Rev. Rick Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery of George, IA. Visitation will be Monday, May 21st from 2 " 8 PM, with the family present from 6 " 8 PM at the Roste Funeral Home of George. Martha Helen Martens was born on January 19, 1924, the daughter of Claus and Severdena (Stomberg) Martens in George, Iowa. She attended and graduated from George High School in 1941. Martha took care of both her parents at their home until their death. She worked as a cook at the George Public School and later as an aide at the Ellsworth Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Ellsworth, MN. Martha was a very active member of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George, participating in Sunday school, choir and the Presbyterian Womens Group. Martha especially enjoyed socializing with friends and family on the phone and visiting residents in the nursing home. Martha is survived by one sister: Vera (Martens) Arends, Ellsworth, MN; one niece, Jean (husband Clint) Allison of Niceville, FL; four nephews, Jack (wife Carolyn) Arends of Elkhorn, NE, Lee (wife Kathy) Arends of Elkhorn, NE, Keith (wife Terrilyn) Arends of Adrian, MN and Lloyd (wife Linda) Arends of Colton, SD. She was preceded in death by her mother, Severdena Martens in 1967, her father, Claus Martens in 1976 and two half-brothers, Fred and Ben Schoneman.
