Marjorie J. Shelby Stickel, age 95 of Sheldon, IA died Wednesday, May 05, 2010 at the Lyon Manor Nursing & Rehab Center in Rock Rapids. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, May 8th at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Sibley, IA, with Rev. Larry Laskie officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids. Visitation will be Saturday, May 8th from 9:00 AM until the hour of service at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Sibley. Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley is in charge of services. Marjorie June Hills was born in rural Rock County, Minnesota on November 23, 1914, the daughter of Lundy and Hettie (Pickard) Hills. She attended and graduated from Wilson High School in Rock Rapids, IA. Marjorie was united in marriage to Harry Shelby in 1947. As a couple they owned and operated Massey Harris Implement dealership in Luverne, MN, and they were Cities Service Oil Distributors for many years in the Rock County area. Later on they owned and operated a motel in Wadina, MN and in the late 60s they owned and operated Lakeside Grocery in Worthington, MN. After selling the grocery, they moved to Sanborn, IA to operate the Sanborn Motel. Upon selling the motel they moved to Sheldon, IA and Marjorie was an employee of Wolffs Department Store. When Harry passed away in 1975 she continued to live in Sheldon. Marjorie married Ed Stickel and they lived together in Sheldon, IA until Eds death in 1997. Marjorie and Ed enjoyed traveling and visiting relatives and friends, dining out and were known to be the best couple on the dance floor. Marjorie loved her geraniums, she loved making homemade donuts, and she was a most faithful correspondent through letters and cards to many, many friends and relatives. And let us not forget she was a big fan and enjoyed the fellowship of Coffee Time . Survivors include: her younger sister, Mildred Paulsen of Rock Rapids, IA; two nephews, Daryl (Marie) Paulsen of Steen, MN and Gary (Carlotte) Paulsen of Ogden, IA; three step-daughters, Shelby Redazzio of California, Bonnie (Larry) Neuberger of Lake Benton, MN and Patty (Jim) Healy of Waukesha, WI; many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lundy and Hettie Hills; husband, Harry Shelby; husband, Ed Stickel.
