Boyden, Iowa Lester T. Winter, age 66, of Boyden, IA died Thursday, September 21, 2006, at the Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon, IA. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25th, at St. John Lutheran Church, rural Boyden, IA with Reverends Kim and Trudy A. Peterson officiating. Burial will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery rural Boyden. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at the Roste Funeral Home of George. Lester Theodor Winter was born August 25, 1940, in Sheridan Township, Sioux County, IA, the son of Albert and Lorna (Michels) Winter. Lester grew up on a farm north of Boyden. He attended St. John Lutheran Parochial School and then graduated from Boyden High School in 1959. Lester was united in marriage to Mary Ellen French on September 18, 1960, at First English Lutheran Church in Spencer, IA. The couple made their home on the farm Lester grew up on. He was a lifelong member of the St. John Lutheran Church in rural Boyden. Lester served in the Army National Guard with the Sheldon Unit. Through the years he took pleasure in working with horses and antique horse drawn equipment and he gave horse drawn rides in Sheldon at Christmas for twenty-five years. He was a member of the AcMoc Catepillar Club (Antique Catepillar Machinery Owners Club). Lester enjoyed building and restoring machinery and dairy farming. He is survived by his wife of forty-six years, Mary Ellen Winter of Boyden; their children, Theodore Ted (wife Carol) Winter of Beaver Creek, MN, LeRoy (wife Joyce) Winter of Boyden, Robert Buck (wife Audrey) Winter of Boyden; four grandchildren, Steve (wife Raeanne) Winter of Sibley, Brian (wife Brittney) Winter of Beaver Creek, MN, Rebecca Winter of Boyden and LeRoy Winter of Boyden; four step-grandchildren, Tobi, Sarah, Scott, & Rebecca Beck ; two great-grandchildren, Kameron Winter of Sibley and Hayden Winter of Beaver Creek, MN; four step-great-grandchildren, Jonathon, Kaitlyn, Dominic and Selena; one brother, Lawrence Winter of Bismarck, ND and one sister, Ellen (husband Richard) Bachman of Apple Valley, MN; mother-in-law, Bertha French of Boyden; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Lester was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Esther Eunice in infancy and one step-grandson, Trinity Jacobsen.
