Palma Elizabeth Sundem

Hills, MN Palma Sundem, age 91 of Hills, MN died Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at the Tuff Memorial Home in Hills, MN. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Friday, March 20th at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hills, MN, with Rev. Mary Dodgson officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday, March 20th. Jurrens Funeral Home of Hills is in charge of services. Palma Elizabeth Sundem was born on April 27, 1917, the daughter of Gabriel and Anna (Anderson) Olson in Klodike, Iowa. Prior to her marriage Palma worked in the cafeteria at Avera McKennen Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. On September 6, 1944, she was united in marriage to Elmer Sundem at the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, SD. After their marriage Elmer farmed with his brother while Palma stayed at her sisters home until March of 1945 at which time they moved to a farm near Beaver Creek, MN, where they started their life together. Later they moved to a farm near Luverne and lived there for twelve years. In 1970, they moved to a farm near Hills where they farmed until 1988. Palma and Elmer stayed living on the home place until Elmers health declined then they decided to move into Hills. Palma was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hills, MN. She was attracted to life in every sense, through her love for music and animals, especially cats. Palma is survived by one son, Jeffrey Sundem of Minneapolis, MN; one granddaughter, Tami (husband, Terry) Smith of Fargo, ND; two great-granddaughters, Victoria and Madison Smith; two brothers, Stanley Olson of Inwood, IA and Milo (wife, Wanda) Olson of Inwood, IA; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer Sundem in 1998; daughter, Carol Sundem 1957, son, Harlan Sundem in 2007; three brothers, Gerhard, Thorvald and Herman; and four sisters, Myrtle, Olive, Oneva and Helen.
