Delco Brower

Rock Rapids, IA Delco Brower, age 92 of Rock Rapids, IA died Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Lyon Manor Nursing & Rehab Center in Rock Rapids. Memorial service will be 11:00 AM, Monday, March 30th at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Rock Rapids, IA, with Rev. Dean Shelly officiating. A private committal service at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids, IA will be Monday, prior to the memorial service. Delco Brower was born July 4, 1916, at Rock Valley, Iowa, the son of Case and Anna (Steck) Brower. After living there and in Alvord, IA the Brower family moved to Rock Rapids, IA. Delco attended country school near Rock Rapids. On February 18, 1942, Delco was united in marriage to Mildred Eder. From this union four children were born; Karol, Jan, Dennis, and Steve. After living in Rock Rapids for a few years Delco and Mildred moved to a farm where they raised their family and Delco practiced his life long occupation as a farmer. After retiring, he and Mildred again moved into Rock Rapids where they resided until her death in 2004. At that time their daughter Karol returned to Rock Rapids and she and Delco continued to live at his residence until an illness in July, 2008, made it necessary for him to move to Lyon Manor Care Facility where he resided until his death at age 92. Delco was a long time member of the Congregational United Church of Christ where he was active and served the church in several capacities. His family remembers Delco as being a kind, caring individual with a unique sense of humor that he often shared with others around him. Delco always enjoyed the visits he had with his grandchildren and their families. His hobbies included card playing, fishing, watching baseball on TV, and taking rides around the county to look at the countryside. He is also remembered as being a very skilled snooker and billiards player from his time spent at the Brower Brothers Pool Hall. Delco is survived by his four children, Karol Hanson, Rock Rapids, Jan (Paul) Wilson of St George, Utah, Dennis (Joy)Brower of Anthem, Arizona, and Steve (Becky) Brower of Elkader, Iowa, ten grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Richard (Ann) Brower and Cornie (Lila) Brower, and two sisters, Willy (Jim) Kudrle and Edith Moeller. Delco was preceded in death by his wife Mildred and brothers Jack Brower, Al Brower, and Pete Brower.
