Leta Irene Bruns was born December 28, 1912, to Harm and Rose (Wolfe) Feldkamp in Sibley, Iowa. She graduated from Sibley High School. She went on to receive her teacher's certificate from Cedar Falls Teachers College. She taught in country schools in Lyon and Osceola Counties for seven years. On December 28, 1935, she was united in marriage to George L. Bruns by the Reverend Harm Johnson at her parents' home in Sibley, IA. To this union two boys were born, George and Lee. Leta and her husband farmed north of George, IA, for many years. In 1974, they built a new home on the farm and a few months later George passed away ending their marriage of 38 years. Leta remained on the farm and continued to be very supportive of her sons in their work until 2004. Her faith and her family were the most important parts of her life. Leta read the Bible through in its entirety every year since her husband's death in 1974. Her children and her grandchildren will remember her as a loving person and a person of great faith. Leta belonged to Tabernacle Baptist Church in George and was a faithful attendee. She also played organ there for many years. Because she was a teacher at heart, she valued education very much and encouraged her boys to attend college. Playing the piano and reading were Leta's favorite activities. This past Saturday, November 8, 2008, Leta passed away at the age of 95. She will be greatly missed. Leta is survived by two sons, George Bruns and his wife Gayle of Rock Rapids, IA, and Lee Bruns and his wife Jolene of Tea, South Dakota; two grandchildren, George D.
