Sibley, Iowa Cleo Braun, age 86 of Sibley, Iowa died Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Friday, July 11th at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Sibley, IA, with Father Clair Boes as Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Andrews Catholic Cemetery in Sibley. Visitation will be Thursday, July 10th from 2 " 8 PM, with the family present from 6 " 8 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley with a rosary service at 5:00 PM and a vigil service at 7:00 PM. Cleo Helen Braun was born on July 6, 1922, the daughter of Charles and Marie (Foisey) Hoffman in Melvin, Iowa. She grew up in Melvin and attended and graduated from Melvin High School. After graduating, Cleo went to nursing school for one year. On December 9, 1943, she was united in marriage to Edward Braun in Sanborn, Iowa. The couple lived in Norfolk, VA for two years while her husband Edward was in the service. Cleo worked as a welder in the ship yards during WW II in Seattle, WA and worked in the payroll section on base when they lived in Norfolk. Cleo and Ed later settled in Sibley and began farming in 1946 and retired and moved into town in 1982. After their retirement, Cleo and her husband Ed enjoyed traveling and camping. Cleo was a member of the St. Andrews Catholic Church, where she served on the Womens Guild. She enjoyed raising tomato plants, reading, her flowers and watching butterflies and birds outside her window. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Cleo is survived by her two children: Barbara (husband Gene) Gale of Ponce De Leon, MO and David (wife Pam) Braun of Sibley, IA; daughter-in-law, Doreen Braun of Sibley, IA; four grandchildren: Travas Gale, Moriah Edwards, Dustin Braun and Thomas Braun; three step grandchildren: Jamie, Jason and Lori Blochowitz; five great-grandchildren: Taylor Motley, Bryan Motley, Kyra Gale, Zayne Gale and Hope Gale; ten step great-grandchildren: Paige, Trey, Matthew, Brady, Colton and Tyler Blochowitz, Jonathan Larsen, and Kaliegh, Alexis and Seth Jones; one sister Blanche Hodapp of Sioux City, IA; one brother, Richard (wife Lena) Hoffman of Marshalltown, IA; three sisters-in-law: Norma Hoffman and Millie Hoffman both of Melvin, IA and Wava Braun of Rock Rapids, IA; two brothers-in-law: Harold (wife Louetta) Braun of Rock Rapids, IA and Ray (wife Joan) Braun of George, IA; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends: Elizabeth Haken, Clark Haken, Loretta Cronin, Linda Mc Kinley, and John, Lana and Elizabeth Hibma. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 2001, one son, Jerry Braun, three brothers and sister-in-law: Clarence (Bertha) Hoffman, George and Frank Hoffman; three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law: Herman Hodapp, Al Braun, Merlin and wife Ann Braun and Eileen Braun.
