GEORGE, IA Margaret K. Harberts, age 77 of George, IA, died Saturday, October 25, 2008, at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services are 10:30 AM, Thursday, October 30th at Zoar Presbyterian Church, rural George, IA, with Rev. Dale Lint officiating. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 29th from 2 " 8 PM, with the family present from 6 " 8 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of George. Margaret Kathleen Harberts was born November 12, 1930 at the family farm near George, Iowa, the son of Fred and Dena (Zordrager) Korthals. She attended country schools in Wheeler and Dale Township and helped with the day to day activities on the farm. After school Margaret helped various families with household chores and child care. On December 7, 1949, Margaret was united in marriage to Orval Harberts at the Reformed Church rural Everly, Iowa. Together the young couple lived and farmed for five years near Dawson, MN, before returning to the George area in 1954. They farmed east of George and were blessed with five children. In October of 1985 Margaret began working at the George Community Good Samaritan Center where she worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant. In 1991 they retired from farming and moved into town. She was a member of Zoar Presbyterian Church and Loyal Womens Circle. She enjoyed sewing, baking, gardening and following her childrens and grandchildrens activities. In 2003, Margaret was diagnosed with cancer. She continued working at the Good Samaritan Center, until retiring on October 1, 2008, enjoying every day. Margaret died this past Saturday, October 25, 2008 at Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, at the age of 77. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 58 years, Orval Harberts of George, IA; five children, Iva (George) Kurz of Nashville, TN, Jan Geigle & friend Brian Henry of Sioux Falls, SD, Myrna (Paul) Hotchkiss of Humboldt, SD, Barb (Steve) Bentele of Sioux Falls, SD and Ordel (Melissa) Harberts of Rock Rapids, IA; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Henrietta Huenink of Steen, MN and Dorothy Sides of Friendsville, TN; three brothers, Edward Korthals of Buffalo, MN, Frederick Korthals of Worthington, MN and Maurice Korthals of Omaha, NE; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Dena Korthals; two sisters, Evelyn Veenker and Christina Pierce.
