NOTICE: Larchwood, IA Dale Pottebaum, age 47, Larchwood, IA died suddenly Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at the Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, July 24th at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood, IA, with Father Jeff Schleisman as celebrant. Burial will follow at the Larchwood Cemetery in Larchwood, IA. Visitation will be Friday, July 23rd from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood. There will be a Vigil service held at 7:00 PM Friday evening at the church. Dale Pottebaum was born on September 4, 1962 in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Gene and Eny Pottebaum. He attended school in Granville and the West Lyon Community School. He began farming in the Alvord, IA area. He was united in marriage to Kristy Lottman on April 28, 1990 in Larchwood, IA. The couple made their home in rural Larchwood and Dale worked for Bruggeman Farms for 18 years. He loved farming and working with his hands. Dale enjoyed the simple things. His family and friends were the most important part of his life. He especially loved his two boys and playing jokes and teasing all the younger kids " he was a big kid himself. Dales other interests were camping, watching NASCAR, drinking PBR, watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he was an avid Jimmie Johnson fan. He will be remembered as a strong and fun loving person, who loved to grill and he always was the one to assume the camp fire duties of building and stirring up the fire. He was the Fire Master . This past Wednesday, Dale suffered a massive heart attack and was transferred to Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, where he died at the age of 47. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 20 years, Kristy Pottebaum, two sons, Marty and Monte Pottebaum, all of Larchwood, IA; his parents, Eny Pottebaum of Rock Rapids, IA and Gene Pottebaum of Rock Valley, IA; five brothers, Dean (Roxy) Pottebaum of Paullina, IA, Doug (Patti) Pottebaum of Larchwood, IA, Denny (Nina) Pottebaum of Sioux Falls, SD; Donnie (Kathy) Pottebaum of Brandon, SD; and Darin Pottebaum of Lester, IA; four sisters, DeAnn (George) Drewes of Rock Rapids, IA; Doreen (Brian) Kuca of Dante, SD; Dawn (Glen) Bakker of Rock Valley, IA and Darla (Mike) Hart of Arlington, MA; and brother-in-law Marc Steward, of Cherokee, IA; parents-in-law, Rollo and Joan Lottman of Larchwood, IA; sister-in-law, Lora (Leon) Burgers of Alvord, IA; three brothers-in-law, Gene Lottman of White River Junction, VT; Raymond (Shawna) Lottman of Lyon, SD; Denny (Candace) Lottman of Canton, SD; and 32 nieces and nephews; and many other extended family. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Denise Steward, Dana Pottebaum, Danielle Pottebaum, and two brothers Duane and David Pottebaum.
