Sibley, IA George D. Breckle, age 98 of Sibley, IA, died Friday, November 27, 2009 at the Family Medicine Clinic in Sibley. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Thursday, December 3, 2009 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sibley, with Reverend Scott Meyer officiating. Burial will follow in the Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 2nd from 3:00 to 9:00 PM, with the family present from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley. George Donald Breckle was born on February 13, 1911, the son of Frank Joseph and Anna Catherine (Wickadal) Breckle in Sibley, IA. He grew up in Sibley and graduated from Sibley High School in 1930. He played center and offensive end on the high school football team and was in plays and musicals. On September 7, 1937, he married Emily Ross . To this union four children were born, Marlys, Nancy, Ralph and George Jr. George was employed with Graves Construction in Alaska, building the Alcan Highway. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during WWII. He worked as a house painter with Bernard Aeilts and as a butcher at Ed Hoecks Grocery Store. George purchased the Corner Caf in Doon, Iowa, which he and Emily operated before retiring to Sibley and acquiring the Park Store, which they operated until retirement. Many generations in Sibley recall the penny box and nickel box, which are now located at the McCallum Museum. After retirement he loved gardening and was renowned for his tomatoes. He liked to play cards at the Senior Citizens Center and volunteered at Dinner Date. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sibley. George was devoted to his grandchildren. He was the family fix-it guy and the go-to man for information. Lets ask Dad, was a common solution. He is survived by his children, Marlys Breckle (William Klein) of Jupiter, FL, Nancy (Mike) Ramsdell of Sibley, IA and Ralph (Estela) Breckle of Charlotte, NC; three grandchildren, Ann, and Susan Ramsdell of Rochester, MN, and David Ramsdell of Sibley, IA; two step-grandchildren, Eric (Julie) Klein of Holly Springs, NC, and Amy Klein of Apopka, FL; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Emily; son, George Jr.; five sisters, Anna Bryan, Mary (Tommy) Sullivan, Josephine(Ulmont) Marco and Marguerite and Dorothy Breckle; and four brothers, Rudolph (Mary), Oscar (Bessie), Frank (Neil) and Edward Breckle.
