Sibley, IA Dorothy Hielkema age 82 of Sibley, IA died Monday, October 15, 2007 at the Sibley Nursing and Rehab Center in Sibley, IA. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 17th, at the United Methodist Church in Sibley, with Rev. Douglas Harding officiating. Burial will follow in Holman Township Cemetery of Sibley. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 16, from 2-7 p.m. with the family present from 6-7 p.m. at the Walton-Roste Funeral Home of Sibley. Dorothy Hielkema was born to Chris and Theresa (Symens) Schutt on April 27, 1925 in Sibley, Iowa. She graduated from Ashton High School in 1945. Dorothy worked as a waitress at the Palace Caf in Sibley for many years. Dorothy Schutt was united in marriage to Henry Hielkema on January 1, 1954 at Trinity Reformed Church in Sibley and the couple farmed in the Melvin area for many years. She and Henry retired from farming and moved to Sibley in 1989. Dorothy enjoyed making quilts, crocheting and knitting in her spare time, and she also loved to travel. She and Henry made a trip to Holland and other European countries in 1994 and they thoroughly enjoyed their time spent in the old country. Dorothy was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sibley and was a regular volunteer at Country View Nursing Home in Sibley. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Dorothy is survived by her husband of 53 years, Henry Hielkema; nieces, Deb (Don) Breems of Harris, IA, Brenda (Keith) Michelson of Ocheydan, IA, Cindy (Don) Thole of Melvin, IA, Joy (Rob) Schutt Hendrickson of Katy, TX; nephews, Gary (Karen) Hielkema of Sibley, IA, Kevin (Jodi) Schutt of Granger, IA; and 17 Grandnieces and Grandnephews; Sisters, Phyllis (Merle) Frette of Story City, IA, and Norma Jean Schutt of Los Alamos, NM; sister-in-law, Mrs. Arlyce (Maynard) Schutt of Sheldon, IA; brother-in-law, Gerrit (Johanna) Hielkema of Sibley, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Chris and Theresa Schutt; and brother Maynard Schutt.
