Rock Rapids Tom Borman, age 56 of Rock Rapids, IA died Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at Sanford Hospital of Rock Rapids. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, Aug. 29th at First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids, with Rev. Katie Van Veldhuizen officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids. Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 28th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. Tommy Eugene Borman was born May 8, 1953 in Rock Rapids, Iowa, the son of Loren and Joyce (Karl) Borman. He was raised in Rock Rapids and attended Central Lyon Community Schools. On October 22, 1971, at the age of 18, Tom entered the U.S. Army. While serving Tom was united in marriage to Vicki Broesder on November 3, 1972 at the United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids, IA. He received his honorable discharge on September 27, 1977 and returned home to Rock Rapids. He began working at Cayel-Craft in Rock Rapids as the shop foreman until he accepted a job as shop foreman at Grand Laboratories in Larchwood. Later he worked as maintenance engineer at Ag-Energy in Luverne, MN. Tom most recently worked as a fabricator at Sudenga Industries in George, IA, until August 9, 2008 when he became disabled as a result of a massive stroke. On August 24, 2009 Tom was diagnosed with lung and liver cancer and died this past Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at the age of 56. He enjoyed woodworking, his dogs and cats, racing, fishing and spending time with his wife and sons. He was especially proud of his 40 x 60 shop he had built. He was very proud of his two sons, Eric and Kip and all of their accomplishments. Tom will always be remembered as a Jack of all trades . He loved woodworking, auto mechanics and restoration, and all home renovations. Tom is survived by his wife, Vicki Borman; two sons, Eric (Amy) Borman and daughter, Makayla DeJong, all of Rock Rapids, and Kip Borman of Rock Rapids and his special friend Carrie Tiesler; mother, Joyce Borman of Rock Rapids; two sisters, Penny (husband, Vernon) Lorenzen and Sharon Steenblock; two brothers, Gary (Judy) Borman and Jerry Borman, all of Rock Rapids; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Loren Borman; maternal grandparents, Eugene and Anna Karl; paternal grandparents, Albert and Clara Borman; and two brothers-in-law, Jim Steenblock and John Harkema.
