NOTICE: Sibley, Iowa Dorothy Hassebroek, age 79, of Des Moines, IA, formerly of Sibley, IA passed away peacefully on Thurs., Sept 22, 2011 at Kavanagh House on 56th in Des Moines, IA. Funeral service will be 2:30 PM Sat., Sept. 24th, 2011 at Jurrens Funeral Home in Sibley, IA with Rev. Dale Lint officiating. Burial will follow at Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley. Family will be receiving guests from 1:30 PM to time of service at 2:30 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home on Sat., Sept. 24th. Dorothy was born January 22, 1932 in Little Rock, IA to the late Fritz and Esther (Symens) Thiesse. She graduated from Little Rock High School. She married Lloyd Hassebroek on February 28, 1952 at her parents home in Little Rock. They lived in Sibley until 1963 when they moved to Sioux City, IA. Dorothy enjoyed gardening, sewing, and her family. She was active as a Brownie leader and a member of Eastern Star. She found great joy in helping others and spent many years self-employed in care taking and cleaning for her customers. After being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1999, she moved to Des Moines to be closer to her family. She continued to enjoy meeting new people, and participating in many activities at the Lodge of Ashworth, and Silvercrest at the Woodlands. She dealt with her illness with grace and courage, as it progressed in limiting her mobility. Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Diane (Jim) Hedden of West Des Moines, IA; LuAnn Jeppesen and her friend John Munyon of Kissimmee, FL; her grandson, Jeff Hedden of West Des Moines, IA; her sister, Marian Kruger of Little Rock, IA; her brother, Edward (Joyce) Thiesse of Springdale, Ark; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Hassebroek on Sept 19, 1983; her brother, LaVerle Thiesse, and her parents. The family wishes to give special thanks for the many caring staff and volunteers at the Kavanagh House on 56th. They continued to give Dorothy joy in their daily conversations and caring ways. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Hospice of Central Iowa.
