Hills, MN Herbert Herb Sundem age 91 of Hills MN died Saturday January 27, 2007 at the Luverne Mary Jane Brown Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Luverne. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday January 30, 2007 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hills MN with Rev. Lowell Berg officiating. Private burial will be in Flowerfield Cemetery at Hills. Visitation will be Monday January 29, 2007 from 2-8 p.m. with family present from 6 -8 p.m at the Roste Funeral Home of Hills MN. Herbert Herb Sundem was born on February 9, 1915, in Martin Township near Hills, MN the son of Nels and Mollie (Peterson) Sundem. Herb grew up on a farm near Hills where he attended Hills Country School. He completed a six week welding school in Brookings SD. Herb was united in marriage to Pearl Roning October 17, 1936. Herbs first job out of welding school at SDSU was working in the ship yards at Seattle Washington during WWII. Later he was a welder at Woods and Company for seventeen years, and a custodian at Beaver Creek Rest Area on Interstate 90 for fifteen years, a position he enjoyed very much. He was known as Herb the bicycle man, many people knew when a bicycle was broken, bring it to Herb . He also enjoyed making plaques out of square nails and then giving them away. Herb and Pearl enjoyed traveling with the Prime Timers. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hills MN. Herb became a resident of the Luverne Mary Jane Brown Good Samaritan Nursing Home on January 2, 2007 where he died this past Saturday morning January 27, 2007 at the age of 91. He is survived by his wife of seventy years Pearl of Hills; two sons, Vermayne Sundem and his wife Dee of Minneapolis, MN; and Terry Sundem and his wife Marilyn of Sherman, IL; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Herb was preceded in death by his parents, Nels and Mollie; two sisters, Sylvia Kortemeyer and Helen Barron.
