George, IA Marie Sprock, age 100 of George, IA died Friday, March 16, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Society in George. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Monday, March 19th at Immanuel Lutheran Church in George, IA, with Rev. Tony Metz, officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George, IA. Visitation will be Sunday, March 18th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with the present from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of George. Marie Katharine (Drewes) Sprock was born February 1, 1912 in Sioux County, Iowa the daughter of Elisa (Hinsch) and George Drewes. Marie grew up in Lyon County and attended country school north of George. On March 24, 1932, Marie was united in marriage to John Sprock at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids. They made their home n Edna for one year and lived the rest of their lives in George. Marie was a house keeper of Dr. Gessford for many years and also helped her husband sew at Sudenga Industries. Marie was active with the Lutheran Church Women. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, beautiful flowers and surely had a green thumb. She loved to cook and especially bake cookies. On February 3, 1980, John died ending their marriage of forty-seven years. Marie continued to live in her home until May of 2007, when she became a resident of the George Good Samaritan Center where she died this past Friday afternoon, March 16, 2012 at the age of 100. She was a loving mom, grandma and will be greatly missed. Marie is survived by her children; Charles (Liz) Sprock of George, IA, Betty (Dwayne) Harms of Columbus, NE, Joann Fry (Cliff Louy) of St. Peters, MO and Marian (Paul) Foxhoven of Omaha, NE; fourteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Lizzy ; husband, John; son, Gene; three granddaughters; one brother, Claus and two sisters, Kate and Emma.
