Sibley, Iowa Frederick Fred Groote, age 87 of Sibley, IA died Sunday, February 22, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Society in George, IA. Funeral service will be 1:30 P.M. on Wednesday, February 25th at the First Presbyterian Church in Sibley, with Pastor Terry Simm officiating. Burial will take place prior to the service in the Zoar Presbyterian Cemetery, rural George. Family will meet at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Sibley at 11:15 A.M. and process to the cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 24th from 2 until 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6 until 8:00 P.M. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley. Frederick Groote was born on December 1, 1921, the son of Bert and Bertha (Grave) Groote on a farm near Ashton, IA. He attended country school and grew up on the family farm near Ashton. On August 25, 1944, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Backer in Sibley, IA. Fred drove truck for his brother until 1949. Then he moved to Sibley where they farmed and raised their children. Fred was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sibley. He enjoyed hunting, trapping and his many trips to Canada fishing. He also enjoyed going to farm sales and auctions with his brother, George. Fred especially loved farming and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Fred is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Dorothy Groote of Sibley; three children, Bernie (wife, Maxine) Groote of George, IA, Bob (wife, Pam) Groote of Sibley and Marilyn Marnach of Loveland, CO; eight grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Ida Klinkenborg of Worthington, MN; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings, John, Lubertus, Bernard, George, Nellie Kirk, Anna Wells, Leona Hendrekson and Bertha Klaassen Schaa.
