Rock Rapids, Iowa Loran Kyle, age 80 of Rock Rapids, IA died Thursday, September 07, 2006 at the Lyon Manor Nursing & Rehab Center in Rock Rapids, IA. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Monday, September 11, 2006 at the United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids, with Reverend Anita Bane officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids, with Military Honors by the Van Anne-Fields VFW Post 6960 and the Rex Strait American Legion Post 103 of Rock Rapids. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, September 10th at the Roste Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. Loran Dale Kyle was born on January 27, 1926 in Rock Rapids, Iowa, the son of Knut and Verna (Jensen) Kyle.He attended and graduated from Rock Rapids High School.In 1944, Loran served in the Army Air Corp during World War II and served overseas in the Philippines and the Pacific, receiving his honorable discharge in 1946.On June 6, 1954, he was united in marriage to Margaret Harries in Sutherland, Iowa.Loran worked for the US West Phone Company for 38 ½ years.He was a member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion and was a former member of the Masonic Lodge.Loran enjoyed woodworking, golfing, fishing, attending grandsons activities and following the Iowa Hawkeyes, Yankees, and the Chicago Bears. This past Thursday, September 7th, Loran died at the Lyon Manor Nursing and Rehab Center in Rock Rapids at the age of eighty. Loran is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Margaret Kyle of Rock Rapids; two children:Patti (husband Bill) Scholten of Sioux Falls, SD and Tom (wife Karla) Kyle of Lake Park, IA; four grandchildren:Matt and Alex Scholten of Sioux Falls and Nathan and Jordan Kyle of Lake Park; three siblings:Bud Kyle of Milford, IA, Ruby Bomgaars of Council Bluffs, IA and Joan (Mrs. Harvey) Schmidt of Sioux Falls, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death his parents, Knut and Verna Kyle, and brother-in-law, Arvin Bomgaars.. Blessed be the memory of Loran Kyle.
