Marvin Lopau

Sibley, IA Marvin Lopau, age 81 of Sibley, IA died Thursday, January 18, 2007, at Lyon Manor Nursing & Rehab Center in Rock Rapids. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sibley with Pastor Scott Meyer, officiating. Burial will follow in Holman Township Cemetery at Sibley. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-8 p.m. with the family present from 4-6 p.m. at the Walton-Roste Funeral Home of Sibley. Marvin Lopau was born December 20, 1925, at Holland, MN the son of Henry and Minnie (Kruger) Lopau. In 1933, the Lopau family moved to Sibley and lived on the family farm north of Sibley. Marvin grew up on that farm and attended country school. After his education he worked on the farm before entering the military, where he serviced his country from 1943 until he was honorably discharged in 1947. Marvin returned home to Sibley and began farming with his brother, Byron until 1955. He was united in marriage to Katheryn Bougher in 1972. Marvin started working in the construction industry and took a job with T. E. Ibberson, where he was a superintendent. During this time Marvin made his home in various places out east before retiring in the early 1990s and moved back to Sibley. During his retirement in Sibley, he enjoyed working around the farm yard, planting many trees, mowing and keeping up the place. Marvin was a life member of the William F. Allard Post No. 737, VFW in Sibley. On August 27, 2001, Marvin became a resident of Lyon Manor Nursing & Rehab Center in Rock Rapids where he died this past Thursday morning, January 18, 2007 at the age of eighty-one. He is survived by his son, Marvin Lopau, Jr. of Sibley; three brothers, Byron (Alvina) Lopau of Sibley; Roger Lopau of Sibley; and Robert Lopau of George, IA; four sisters, Bernice Nachtigal of Sibley; Deloris Hulzobus of Canby, MN; Violet (Leon) Voss of Lakefield, MN; and Marcella (Lester) Renken of Sibley. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Minnie; one sister, Rosemary; and one infant brother.
