Allen Wright Shannon

Sibley, IA Allen Wright Shannon, Sr. of Sibley, IA died January 9, 2011 at Osceola Community Hospital. He was born May 26, 1929 in Buffalo, NY. Shannon graduated from Huron College where he met and married his wife, Loretta (Christensen) in 1952. He was preceded in death by his wife, daughter Patrice, and brother Richard. He is survived by 4 children: Suzanne (Brad) Morehouse, Clifton, VA " Allen Shannon, Rochester, NY " Joelle (Doug) LaSuer, Baxley, GA " and Laurel (Dana) Timmerman, Sioux Falls, SD and 2 grandchildren, Stephen LaSuer of Stugis, SD and Zane Morehouse of Fairfax, VA. A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday January 15, 2011 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ashton, IA. The family will host a reception from 2:00 till 4:00 pm at The Cedar Cabin, Ashton, IA. Shannon was a well known and respected musician, composer, and educator in the region over the past 50 years. He served as instructor and director of bands at West Lyon District High School, Sibley Community High School, and Little Rock Community Schools. His original compositions include the musical ICHABOD which was premiered by OFF, OFF Broadway Community Theatre of Sibley, IA. Shanny was a featured performer at many supper clubs in the resort community of the Iowa Great Lakes and was a regular fixture at The Cedar Cabin Supper Club since 1962.
