NOTICE: Larchwood, Iowa Leonard Vanden Bosch, age 54 of Larchwood, IA died Thursday Sept. 22nd, 2011 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Fall, SD after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday Sept. 26th at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood, IA, with Rev. Mark Hansen officiating. Burial will follow at the Larchwood Cemetery in Larchwood, IA. Visitation will be Sunday Sept. 25 from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood. Lenny was born December 14, 1956 in Rock Rapids, IA. He grew up in Doon, IA and graduated from Central Lyon in 1975 where he met the love of his life Debra (Delfs). Who he had 3 children together with and 4 granddaughters, which were the light of his life. There is no greater honor he held then to be a grandpa. They moved to Larchwood in 1975 where he and his brother Doug started D&L Masonry. He loved his community and stepped up in any and every way possible. He was the Mayor of Larchwood for 10 years. He was the Fire Chief for 15 years and a fireman for 14 years prior. He was on the Optimist Board, 911 Board, town counsel, fireman board, Lyon County Consortium, Landfill Commission and any other board or committee that would have him in his 36 years in Larchwood. In his free time he loved to go to the races, golf with his wife, spend time with his children and especially his grandbabies and just drive around town. There is no one who encountered Len whose life he did not effect. He ended his life reaching out to his community one more time by being an organ donor and will be able to help countless people in one way or another. He left a legacy that no one will forget and his family could not be more proud of. Honored for having shared his life are his loving wife Deb (Delfs); children, Dominic Nick (Shannon) Vanden Bosch of Larchwood, Megan (Kevin) Wachtman of Colorado, and Michelle Vanden Bosch of Larchwood and 4 beautiful granddaughters, Sophia (4), Claire (3), Khloe (2), and Grace (1); siblings, Ron(Linda) Vanden Bosch of Hull, Larry (Linda) Vanden Bosch of Clarinda, Doug (Bonnie) Vanden Bosch of Larchwood, Kirk (Lisa) Vanden Bosch of Rock Rapids, Margaret (Dan) Kramer of Rock Rapids, and sister in law Sharyn Vanden Bosch in California, and many more family and friends that meant so much. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents Bert & Lois Vanden Bosch, Doon and Brother Monty Vanden Bosch, California.
