Lavina Elizabeth Schoo

Ashton, Iowa Lavina E. Schoo, age 81 of Ashton, IA died Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, September 24, 2011 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Ashton, with Father John Vakulskas as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery in Ashton. Visitation will be Friday, September 23rd from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the St. Marys Catholic Church in Ashton. There will be a rosary at 5:00 PM and vigil service at 7:30 PM. Lavina Elizabeth Schoo was born on July 8, 1930 on a farm near Adrian, MN, the daughter of Carl and Elizabeth (Schutz) Lonneman. Lavina grew up in Ashton, Iowa and attended and graduated from St. Joseph Parochial School in 1948. On October 18, 1950, she was united in marriage to Noel Schoo at Our Lady of Perpetual Help (now-known-as: St. Marys Catholic Church) in Ashton. To this union seven children were born, James, Kathryn, Janet, Donna, Diane, Robert and Gerald. Lavina and her husband Noel were lifelong residents of Ashton and farmed west of town. She was a member of the St. Marys Catholic Church and very active with the Catholic Daughters of America. She enjoyed gardening, canning, baking, harvest time and watching Wheel of Fortune. Lavina especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Lavina is survived by her husband of sixty years, Noel Schoo of Ashton, IA; six children, James Schoo of Ashton, IA, Kathryn (Douglas) DeGroot of George, IA, Donna (Michael) Williams of Spirit Lake, IA, Diane (Joe) Poss of Rochester, MN, Robert (Kristil) Schoo of Ashton, IA and Gerald (Val) Schoo of George, IA; son-in-law, Gary Iedema of Sibley, IA; eighteen grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren; three siblings, Darlene (Lyle) Philliph of Shoreview, MN, Marlyn (Joyce) Lonneman of Spirit Lake, IA and Bonnie Lonneman of Bloomington, MN; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Janet Iedema and two grandchildren, Jeremy Schoo and Krystal Schoo.
