Hilda Dorothy Hayenga

Sibley, IA Hilda D. Hayenga, age 93 of Sibley, IA died Saturday, February 07, 2009 at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, February 10th at First Reformed Church in Sibley, with Rev. Gary Van Heukelom officiating. Burial will follow at Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley. Visitation will be Monday, February 9th from 2 " 8 PM with the family present from 6 " 8 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley. Hilda Dorothy Hayenga was born on August 30, 1915, the daughter of Heye and Anna (Feldkamp) Hayenga on a farm northeast of Sibley, Iowa. She grew up near Sibley and graduated from Sibley High School in 1933. Hilda taught in country schools near Ackley, Iowa, and the Osceola county area for twenty-five years. Following that she cared for her mother for eight years. Hilda stayed on the family farm with her brother Pete until 1993, when she moved into Sibley. She was an active member of the Trinity Reformed Church in Sibley, where she served as a Sunday school, Catechism, and Bible school teacher for sixty years. Following the closing of the Trinity Reformed Church, she then transferred her membership to the First Reformed Church in Sibley. Hilda was known for her kindness and hospitality. Hilda is survived by six nephews, Ted (wife, Marie) Abkes of Waterloo, IA, Stanley (wife, Karen) Abkes of Iowa Falls, IA, Dan (wife, Eva) Schutte of Rushmore, MN, Ted Schutte of Sibley, IA, David (wife, Donna) Vietor of Britton, SD and Jim (wife, Marilyn) Vietor of Pierre, SD; two nieces, Miriam (husband, Harley) Behrens of George, IA and Sue (husband, Gregg) Korver of Orange City, IA; and two nieces-in-law, Marian Hayenga of Worthington, MN and Gen Abkes of Denver, CO. Preceding her in death was her father in 1951, mother in 1961, nine siblings, Freda Hayenga in 1933, Evelyn Vietor in 1944, Coba Hayenga in 1955, Alice Abkes in 1966, Cornelius Hayenga in 1982, Anna Hayenga in 1987, Olive Schutte in 1990, Pete Hayenga in 1992 and Haja Hayenga in 1994; and four nephews and one niece, Leslie Hayenga, Virgil Abkes, Romaine Abkes, Gordon Abkes and Mavis Schutte.
