Rock Rapids, Iowa Alma Johnson age 92 of Rock Rapids, IA died Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at the Rock Rapids Health Centre in Rock Rapids, IA. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 8, 2014 at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Rock Rapids, with Pastor Dean Shelly officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George, IA. Visitation will be Monday, September 8th from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association. Alma Pauline Garnmeister was born on September 20, 1921, the daughter of August and Mary Dorothea (Jessen) Garnmeister. She was raised on a farm near George and attended country school there until her mother passed away. On June 14, 1939, Alma was united in marriage to Roy Fredrick Johnson. The couple lived in George until 1966 and then moved to Rock Rapids. Roy passed away on December 14, 1990. Alma held various positions throughout her life, she worked at Campbell Soup in Worthington, MN; cleaned houses in George and Rock Rapids; worked at the cleaners in Rock Rapids. She was a cook at many restaurants in the area such as: The Corner Café, Lane's Café both in Rock Rapids and the Doon Steakhouse in Doon, IA. Alma was a member of the Lutheran Church in George. She enjoyed cooking and crocheting. Alma is survived by three children: Shirley Ann Huisman of Rock Rapids, IA, Marilyn (Jack) Akridge of Maricopa, AZ and Pamela (Glenn) Kooiker of Omaha, NE; ten grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and nineteen great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and August Garnmeister; husband, Roy Johnson; one daughter, Dorothy Johnson and one son, Roy Robert Johnson; brother, Elmer Garnmeister; sister, Louise Blau; and two infant brothers, Arthur and Arnold Garnmeister; and a grandson-in-law, James Kuchenbecker.
