George, Iowa Lorraine K. Stueven, age 88 of George, IA died on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley, IA. Funeral service will be at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, July 23rd at St. John Lutheran Church rural Boyden, IA, with Rev. Robert Gordon officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery rural Boyden, IA. Visitation will be Monday, July 22nd from 2:00 to 8:00 PM with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George. Lorraine Katherine Stueven was born September 4, 1924 in Hull, IA to Frederick and Elizabeth (Stegemann) Woelber. She went to the Sheldon Community College in the summer of 1943 to become a teacher. Lorraine taught at 3 rural schools in Lyon County, IA until she got married. On February 3, 1948 she was united in marriage to Arthur Stueven at St. John Lutheran Church. The couple made their home on a farm near George, IA and lived there together their entire married lives. Lorraine lost her husband of 61 years on September 17, 2009. Lorraine was baptized on October 5, 1924 and confirmed on April 10, 1938 at St. John Lutheran Church, where she was a lifelong member. She taught kindergarteners in Sunday school for several years and belonged to the Altar Guild and Dorcas Society. Lorraine spent many hours canvassing for the American Heart Association and enjoyed doing numerous activities as a member of the Friends and Neighbors Club. Her faithfulness of remembering people with cards, letters and phone calls was always appreciated. Lorraine had a memory like no other and was often called upon to help recall those facts. She enjoyed flowers and was known for her angel food cakes and jelly rolls made from scratch. This past Wednesday Lorraine passed away at the Osceola Community Hospital at the age of 88. She will be greatly missed. Lorraine is survived by her daughters, Joyce (Jim) Kirkgasler of Sioux Falls, SD, and Dorothy (Terry Young) Geary of Elk Point, SD; three grandchildren, Shawn (Andie) Geary of Elk Point, SD, Travis (Kathy) Geary of Jefferson, SD; and Joelle (Troy) Martin of Danbury, IA; five great-grandchildren, Landon Geary; and Will, Hunter, Molly and Drew Geary; sister, Delaine (Phil) Prichard of Davenport, IA; brothers, LeRoy (Arlene) Woelber of Boyden, IA; and Waldo (Sherran) Woelber of Rembrandt, IA; and other extended family members. She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur; parents, Frederick and Elizabeth Woelber; brother, Lowell Woelber; sister, Grace Woelber; 2 infant brothers; sister-in-law, Anne Woelber; nephew, Russell Woelber; and son-in-law, William Geary.
