Rock Rapids, IA Doris Schubert, age 74 of Rock Rapids, IA died Sunday, June 13, 2010 at the Rock Rapids Health Centre. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 16th at Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids with Rev. Mark Hansen officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 15th from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. with family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. Doris Beth Geick Schubert was born on February 5, 1936 in Rock Rapids, IA to Melvin H. and Mae (Fallis) Geick. Doris grew up in Rock Rapids and was baptized in the Methodist Church on August 15, 1938, and confirmed in the Peace Lutheran Church on July 3, 1957, and graduated from Rock Rapids High School May 1954. She worked in the Hindt Law Office and Allbright Abstract Company in Rock Rapids before beginning a 31 year career as Senior Deputy County Auditor, retiring from that position March, 1998. On November 3, 1956 Doris was united in marriage to Lorenz E. Larry Schubert in the Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids. Doris worked at her hobby of quilting after her retirement, making many quilts for her children and grandchildren and loved working with the Mission Quilters of Peace Lutheran Church. Doris is survived by her husband of 53 years, Larry Schubert; two children, Kim Knapek of Cedar Falls, IA and Kent (Becky) Schubert of Shenandoah, IA; her grandchildren,Megan Bosch (Kirk) and their son, Hunter and Alec Knapek, Jake, Jordan and Jamie Schubert; brothers, Mel (Jo)Geick of Council Bluffs IA, and Gordon Geick of Sioux Falls, SD; sisters, Cora Lee (Don) Koel of Rock Rapids, and Cheri Haight of Sioux Falls, SD; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Patsy and Sarah (Sally); brothers, Don, Bill, Tom and Les. Family prefers memorials be directed to the Peace Lutheran Church Quilters.
