Sibley, IA Frances Hurd, age 69 of Sibley, IA died unexpectedly, Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at Spirit Lake, IA. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, August 23rd at First Reformed Church in Sibley, with Rev. Gary Van Heukelom officiating. Burial will follow at Ransom Township Cemetery in Rushmore, MN. Visitation will be Friday, August 22nd from 2:00 " 8:00 PM with the family present from 6:00 " 8:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley. Frances Lorraine Hurd was born on December 6, 1938 in Minneapolis, MN. She was raised by Henry and Minnie Ketel in Bigelow, MN. Frances attended and later graduated from Worthington High School in Worthington, MN. After graduating she worked at the Caf in Bigelow. Later she candled eggs in Pipestone, MN and later in Sibley. On December 14, 1957, she was united in marriage to Jackie Hurd at the United Methodist Church in Bigelow. Frances loved children and touch many lives as a babysitter for seventeen years, from her home. She was so close to the children she cared for that they called her Grandma . Frances was an active member of the First Reformed Church in Sibley. Frances enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling, embroidery work and playing cards with her family and friends. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and attending their activities. Frances is survived by her husband of fifty years, Jackie Hurd of Sibley; three daughters, Lynn (husband Ellison) Hayenga of Sibley, Jo (husband Bruce) Stegemann of Matlock, IA and Lana (husband John) Hibma of Sibley; six grandchildren, Elyssa and Bryan Hayenga, Sara, Jenna and Jason Stegemann and Elizabeth Hibma; her dog, Cinnamon ; and other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
