Sibley, Iowa Roger J. Bloes, age 79 of Sibley, IA died Sunday, May 30, 2010 at Country View Manor in Sibley, IA. Memorial service will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 5, 2010 at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Sibley with Fr. John Vakulskas as celebrant. Burial will be prior to the service at 9:30 a.m. at Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley, IA. Visitation will be Friday, June 4th from 4-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley. There will be a rosary at 5:00 p.m. and vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Roger Joseph Bloes was born February 15, 1931 near Ashton, IA to Gregory and Genevive (Engel) Bloes. He received his education in the Sibley schools. In the years before his entry into the military, Roger worked at the Sibley Light and Power Plant and in 1951 he joined the U.S. Navy. Upon his return to Sibley after 4 years of active service in the Navy, he went back to his job at the light plant. After many years at the light plant, Roger went to work for the Sibley school system as custodian. He retired in 1995. He was a member of the St. Andrews Catholic Church in Sibley and the Sibley VFW. Roger married Ruth Salzman on July 25th, 1981 at the United Church of Christ in Sibley and the couple lived in Sibley. Christmas was Rogers favorite time of year. He truly enjoyed making the holiday special for his nieces and nephews and later for his step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren and others in the community. Roger loved children, he so enjoyed each and every one of his newly acquired family. He will be greatly missed. This past Sunday, Roger died at the Country View Manor in Sibley at the age of 79. Roger is survived by his wife, Ruth Bloes of Sibley, IA; step-daughters, Susan Smith of Blair, NE and Leann Allen of Embarrass, MN; step-son, Mark (Verna) Salzman of Ocheyedan, IA; 13 step-grandchildren, 18 step-great-grandchildren; brothers, Lawrence (Jan) Bloes of Des Moines, IA and Terry (Marti) Bloes of Omaha, NE; sister, Connie (Mike) Sweeney of Medical Lake, WA; and 9 nieces and nephews and 12 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gregory and Genevive; and sister Peggy and one great-grandson.
