Gene Alan Zachow

Rock Rapids, IA Gene Zachow, age 52 of Rock Rapids, IA died unexpectedly Tuesday October 19, 2010 at Sanford Hospital of Rock Rapids. Memorial service will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 23rd at Bethel Reformed Church of rural Ellsworth, MN with Pastor Matt Miller officiating. Visitation will be Friday, October 22nd from 2:00 to 8:00pm, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00pm at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. Gene Alan Zachow was born March 2, 1958 in Akron, Iowa, the son of Edward J. and Wyona (Hartwigsen) Zachow. He was raised in Richland, South Dakota where he attended elementary school. He then attended Elk Point Community School and graduated in 1976. He then began working construction for various contractors in the area. In 1980 he moved to Rock Rapids, Iowa while working for G.L. Larson Construction. He also worked at IBP in Luverne, Minnesota. On July 16, 1983, Gene was united in marriage to Jeri C. Huisman at Bethel Reformed Church, near Ellsworth, MN. They made their home in Rock Rapids and were blessed with the birth of a son, Andrew. He also worked at AMTEC in Rock Rapids, and most recently at Total Component Solutions and A & I Products, both in Rock Valley, Iowa. He was a member of Bethel Reformed Church and served as Deacon. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Central Lyon fan. He enjoyed fishing with Sid, woodworking and spending time with his family, and friends, especially his close friends, Steve, Paul, Micki and Marty. He will be remembered as a tenderhearted man, who adored his son, nieces and nephews. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 27 years, Jeri Zachow of Rock Rapids, IA; his son, Andrew Zachow, Cedar Falls, IA; a brother, Chris Zachow of Richland, SD; mother-in-law, Shirley Huisman; sisters-in-law, Jackie Johnson, Janet and her husband, Sid Logan, all of Rock Rapids, IA; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and many other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward J. and Wyona Zachow; and father-in-law, Clifford G. Huisman.
