Nina Elisabeth Trei

NOTICE: George, Iowa Nina E. Trei, age 92 of George, IA died Friday, August 19, 2011 at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital in New Braunfels, TX. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday, Aug. 26th at Zoar Presbyterian Church, rural George, IA, with Rev. Dale Lint officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 25th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of George. Nina Elisabeth Trei was born August 17, 1919 to Louis and Velva (Folkers) Larson at Sibley, Iowa. She was raised on a family farm southwest of Sibley. She attended country school and graduated from Ashton High School in 1937. After her education she worked as a bookkeeper at the Sibley Creamery. Nina was united in marriage to Arthur Trei on June 6, 1946 at Zoar Presbyterian Church. They made their home in George, IA and to this union four children were born. Nina did in home babysitting, helped with bookkeeping for Arthurs feed grinding business, and cleaned the elementary school. Later Nina worked as a waitress for several restaurants in the George area, such as the White Shop Caf, Rons Caf, George Caf, Johns Steakhouse and the Pizza Ranch. Ninas husband, Arthur died on March 29, 1997, after 50 years of marriage. Nina loved visiting with friends and family, and sitting in the kitchen, in her favorite chair watching out the window. A big highlight for Nina was her 90th birthday. She loved living in George, and later in life with her two daughters in Texas and spending time with their families. She attended many of her great-grandchildrens sporting events. She also was an avid fan of the San Antonio Spurs basketball team, which she watched on TV and attended some of the games. She enjoyed chatting on the phone with her sister, Lois Odens. She very much looked forward to her Tuesday outings with family friend, Richard Lynch, going antiquing, shopping and out for lunch. Nina passed away unexpectedly this past Friday, August 19, 2011 at the age of 92. She is survived by two daughters, Karol (Ret. Col. Robert) Bruns of Garden Ridge, TX and Colleen (Dr. Steven) Beito of New Braunfels, TX; one son, Paul (Karen) Trei of Ashton, IA; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Lois Odens of Little Rock, IA; one brother, Don (Verla) Larson of Sibley, IA; and many other extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Trei; her parents, Louis and Velva Larson; step father, Alex Behrens; one daughter, Linda Kay; one granddaughter, Tristin Raye Trei; one brother, Elgin Larson; and several nieces and nephews.
