Hills, MN Kenneth Sandstede, age 90 of Hills, MN died Friday, August 22, 2014 at Tuff Memorial Home in Hills, MN. Funeral service will be 10:30 Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hills, MN with Rev. Mahlon Bekedam officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery near Steen, MN. Visitation will be Monday August 25 th from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM with family present from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Hills, MN. Kenneth Lee Sandstede was born September 24, 1923 to George and Edith (Clemons) Sandstede. He was raised on the family farm near Steen, MN and attended School in Steen. On January 2, 1948 he was united in marriage to Rosa Hovland at his familys farm. The couple lived on the farm, and later moved to Hills, MN in 1978. He farmed and in addition operated a business hauling and selling bulk water to area farmers and businesses. Starting in the early 1970s Kenny and Rosie became snowbirds. They would travel to Mesa, AZ to spend the winter with old friends theyd known for years and new friends as well. They began their travels to Mesa in a bus camper and later a motorhome. They then bought a park model trailer and truly enjoyed their winters away. Kenny and Rosie loved spending time playing cards with their card groups over the years. Kenny also enjoyed fishing and he was known to be a fun loving man. Kenny entered the Tuff Memorial Home in January of 2012 and passed away on Friday August 22, 2014 at the age of 90. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rosie Sandstede; daughter, Linda (Dennis) Schlacke of Longmont, CO; son, Terry (Glenda) Sandstede of Steen, MN; grandchildren, Wendy (Matthew) Schwartz of Lafayette, CO, Brian (Katie) Westerberg of Littleton, CO, Rachel (Jeremy) Hurshman of Fort Collins, CO, Laressa (Justin) Birger of Hills, MN, Deanna (Philip) Smith of Sioux Falls, SD, LaDonna (Nick) Freiborg of Sioux Falls, SD, and Melinda (Chad) Kissell of Sioux Falls, SD; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy (Alfred) Kruse of Sioux Falls, SD; nieces, nephews and other extended family members. Ken was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Viola Lutz, brother, Melvin Sandstede and infant brother, Keith.
