Edward C. Drenth

Ellsworth, Minnesota Edward Drenth, age 82 of Ellsworth, MN died Monday, November 2, 2009 at Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, Nov. 7th at Zion Presbyterian Church in Ellsworth, MN, with Rev. Dave Poppen officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Reformed Cemetery in rural Ellsworth. Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 6th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George. Edward Claus Drenth was born to Klaas and Effie (Brommer) Drenth on February 5, 1927 on the family farm in Lyon County, Iowa. Ed was baptized at Zion Presbyterian Church in Ellsworth, MN on March 21, 1929. He attended the Midland #1 country school and Ellsworth High School. He was drafted into the Army Air Corps in June of 1945 and was honorably discharged in December of 1946. He returned to the family farm where he lived for the remainder of his life. He farmed, raised livestock and in his early years custom baled. Ed was married to Wyona Snuttjer on June 15, 1951 at Zion Presbyterian Church in Ellsworth, MN. He and Wyona were members at Zion Presbyterian Church and Bethel Reformed Church in Ellsworth, MN. He was proud of his familys musical talents and that all six of his children earned college degrees. Ed was outgoing and enjoyed community activities. He was a member of the Gilbert Larsen American Legion Post #196 in Ellsworth, MN. Ed enjoyed farming and it provided him with opportunities to explore and appreciate nature. Later in life, Ed developed Alzheimers disease and has been under professional care for the past year and a half. He is survived by his wife, Wyona (Snuttjer) Drenth of Ellsworth, MN, formerly of Lennox and Platte, SD; six children, Eileen and her husband, Dennis Sohl of Le Mars, IA, Steven Drenth of Cypress, CA, Rodney Drenth of Marshalltown, IA, Judith Drenth and her husband, Douglas Anderson of Burnsville, MN, Lora Drenth and her husband, David LaTourelle of Hastings, MN and Mark Drenth of Jackson, MN; four grandchildren, David (wife, Janel) and Daniel Sohl, Morgan and Karl Polley; three great-grandchildren, Carter, Elaina and Grant Sohl; one sister, Louise Grosse of Omaha, NE; one sister-in-law, Henrietta Drenth of Ellsworth, MN; and many other extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Klaas and Effie; an infant daughter; two brothers, Arthur and James Drenth; and two sisters, Ruth Roozing and Jennette Reisdorfer.
