Anna Hofstra

Rock Rapids, Iowa Anna Hofstra, age 82 of Rock Rapids, IA died Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at the George Good Samaritan Center in George, IA. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids, with Rev. Anita Bane, officiating. Private committal services will be in Hillside Cemetery at Doon. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-8 p.m. with the family present from 4-6 p.m. at the Roste Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. Anna Louise (Dirks) Hofstra was born April 15, 1924 on the family farm near Little Rock, IA the daughter of Frank and Dena (Rosenbaum) Dirks. As a child they lived near Little Rock and also Midland, Iowa where she attended country school. On July 2, 1941, she was united in marriage to Richard Hofstra at Pender, NE. The newly wed couple moved to Doon where they farmed. From 1963 until 1977 they lived in Ohio and Kentucky where they were very active in harness racing. In 1977, they returned to Doon. On November 27, 1983, after 42 years of marriage, Richard died. In 1986 she moved to Rock Rapids. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids. In the fall of 1999 she became a resident of the Four Seasons Assisted Living in Rock Rapids. As her health declined she needed more care and became a resident of the George Good Samaritan Center at George in May of 2004. Anna died at the George Good Samaritan Center this past Wednesday afternoon, December 13, 2006 at the age of eighty-two. She is survived by her son, Roger Hofstra and his wife, Cindy of Sheldon, IA; two daughters, Janice and her husband, Barry Iwen; and Deborah and her husband, Steve Anderson all of Rock Rapids; along with five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one brother, John Dirks of Fulda, MN; and two sisters-in-law, Edna Dirks of Luverne, MN and Jeanette Laackmann of Doon. Anna was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Dena; her husband, Richard; one grandson; four sisters, Katie Reemts, Mina Ver Hoef, Dora Reemts and Fanny Hofstra; and two brothers, Ben Dirks and Frank Dirks.
