Larchwood, IA Robert Bob Doherty, age 53 of Larchwood died Sunday, July 15, 2012 at the Sanford Hospice Foundation Cottage in Sioux Falls, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood, with Father Jeff Schleisman as celebrant. Burial will follow at Larchwood Cemetery in Larchwood, IA. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 17th from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood. There will be a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. that evening. The Jurrens Funeral Home of Larchwood is handling arrangements. Robert Joseph Doherty was born July 25, 1958 in Sioux Falls, SD, the son of Robert Charles and Alice (Anderson) Doherty. He was raised on a farm outside of Inwood, IA and attended West Lyon School. Bob started working for Inwood Cooperative in 1977 and worked there for thirteen years. On April 1, 1978, Bob was united in marriage to Ginger Albers in Larchwood, IA and then were later divorced. The couple made their home in Inwood and to this union two children were born Brian and Ashley. Following working for the Inwood Coop, Bob was a Secondary Road Maintainer Operator for Lyon County for twenty-two years. He was a member of The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood. He enjoyed camping and was a professional tinkerer (loved to fix things). Special memories included traveling to Florida, Colorado and taking a hot air balloon ride. Bob is survived by his two children, Brian (Megan) Doherty of Inwood, IA and Ashley (Trenton) Elliott of Sioux Falls, SD; his mother, Alice Doherty of Larchwood, IA; maternal grandfather, Alvin Schettler; 11 siblings, Pat (Gail) Doherty of Apollo Beach, FL, Matt Doherty of Larchwood, IA, Bill (Donna) Doherty of Inwood, IA, Cindy (Jim) Grotjohn of Inwood, IA, Frank (Chris) Doherty of Valley Springs, SD, Patricie (Ben) Metzger of Cheyenne,Wyoming, Theresa (Randy) Sehr of Sioux Falls, SD, Ann (Kevin) Spaans of Sioux Falls, SD, Marty (Linda) Doherty of Sioux Falls, SD, John (Marla) Doherty of Larchwood, IA and Mary (Dave) Jackson of Inwood, IA; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Ginger Doherty; his father, Robert Doherty; sister, Maureen Reckert; brother-in-law, Bill Reckert; nephew, Mike Reckert; paternal grandparents, Mike and Mary Doherty; and maternal grandparents, Fred Anderson and Verena Anderson (Schettler).
