Hills, MN Karen D. Top, age 58 of Luverne, MN died Sunday, July 15, 2012 at her residence at Residential Advantages Incorporated in Luverne, MN. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at the United Reformed Church in Hills, MN, with Reverend Doug Barnes officiating. Burial will take place at United Reformed Cemetery in Hills prior to the service and family and friends are asked to meet at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Hills at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 17th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Hills, MN. Karen Darlene Top was born to Clarence and Katie (Van Den Oever) Top on May 22, 1954 in the Valley Springs, SD hospital. It was determined that she had Down syndrome at an early age. She attended Mrs. Bergs early development program in Luverne for a few years. She then attended special education programs in Hills and Beaver Creek for several years. She also attended Hope Haven in Rock Valley, IA; Unique Services in Mountain Grove, MO and Rock County Opportunities in Luverne, MN the last several years. Her last residence was at Residential Advantages Incorporated (RAI) in Luverne. Karens interests included bowling and other special Olympic activities. Attending Friendship Class was a highlight of her week. She enjoyed eating out especially at the Pizza Ranch, attending People First and going to birthday parties. She loved vacations and staying overnight in motels. Her sociability, pleasant demeanor, and huge smile will be missed by her family, mother, Katie of Hills, MN; sisters, Barbara Top of Sioux Center, IA and Sue (Dale) Bartels of Hills, MN; brother, John (Cordean) Top of Mansfield, MO; and sister-in-law, Linda Top of Maurice, IA; fourteen nieces and nephews; several great nephews and nieces; and many other family and friends will also miss her. She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence and her brother, Ray. Karen was a professing member of the United Reformed Church in Hills, MN on November 15, 1992. Memorials may be directed to Hope Haven in Rock Valley, Rock County Opportunities in Luverne or other charities of your choice in lieu of flowers.
