Hills, MN Helen Top, age 93 of Hills, MN died Friday, May 30, 2008, at the Sanford Luverne Hospital in Luverne, MN. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at the Hills United Reformed Church in Hills, MN with Reverend Doug Barnes officiating. Burial will follow in the Hills United Reformed Cemetery of Hills. Visitation will be Monday, June 2nd, from 2-8 PM with the family present from 6-8 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Hills, MN. Helen Helena Top was born on October 9, 1914, the daughter of Joe and Nellie (Schut) Tubergen in Joubert, SD. She grew up in the Chandler and Edgerton, MN areas. On February 20, 1935, she was united in marriage to Henry Top in Hills, MN. In their 64 years of marriage, beginning in Hills, Henry and Helen lived in several places. Many of their years together were spent living in Sioux Falls, twelve years in Denver and in Hills since 1973. Helen entered the Tuff Village on October 10, 2006 then the Tuff Home November 16, 2007. Helen worked at various places through out her life. She cooked at the South Dakota school for the deaf, worked at a drapery shop in Denver, CO, cleaned houses in Denver and Sioux Falls, SD, and worked at John Morrell in Sioux Falls. She was a very active member of the Hills United Reformed Church, where she served in the Esther circle and Christian fellowship. Helen enjoyed being involved in the Christian school service projects, loved gospel music, traveling, going to garage sales, baking buns and writing poems about Anniversaries and Weddings. A passion of hers was collecting pretty dishes. The thing she loved the most was visiting with her friends and family at gatherings. Helen is survived by her children: Carol (John) Van Maanen of Hills, MN and Dan (Narla) Top of Hills, MN; seven grandchildren: Craig (Val) Top of Modesto, CA, Diane (Darcy) Van Gorp of Sioux Falls, SD, Dana (Tim) Vink of Zeeland, MI, Sheila (Larry) VanDyke of Denver, CO, Jodi Top of Golden, CO, Jason (Chris) Top of Akron, IA and Rochelle (Cody) Statema of Bloomington, MN and twelve great-grandchildren; also one brother, Fred Tubergen of Jenison, MI; and two sisters: Elsie Smith of Pipestone, MN and Hattie (Fred) Van Heerde of Sioux Falls, SD; and one sister-in-law, Annetta Tubergen of Ripon, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry; two sons, Jay Donald Top and James Top; three brothers: Gerrit, Henry and Alfred Tubergen; and one sister, Fanny Miersma; two brothers-in-law: Al Smith and Paul Miersma and two sisters-in-law: Cornelia Tubergen and Gervenere Tubergen.
