Hills, MN Evelyn Rogness, age 96 of Hills, MN died Sunday, November 14, 2010 at the Tuff Memorial Home of Hills. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, Nov. 20th at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hills, MN, with Rev. Mahlon Bekedam officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 19th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of Hills. Evelyn J. Thompson was born August 11, 1914 at Wadena, Iowa. She attended rural school and Wadena High School. She continued her education at Waldorf College in Forest City, IA and Luther College in Decorah, IA. She taught school in rural schools, Maynard Consolidated School in Maynard, IA and Knoxville West School in Knoxville, IA. She attended Radio Operators School in Alameda, CA and was employed by United Airlines as a radio operator for eight years in Chicago, Boston and New York. She married Alfred Rogness on July 29, 1950 in Omaha, NE. They lived in Sioux Falls, SD for a number of years. They were members of the First Lutheran Church. Then they moved to the Rogness farm near Hills, MN and became members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She also worked at Luther Manor in Sioux Falls, SD for several years. Evelyns husband, Al died on October 4, 1993, after 43 years of marriage. Evelyn remained living in the Hills area. In April of 2007 Evelyn entered the Tuff Memorial Home where she remained until this past Sunday, November 14, 2010, when she died at the age of 96. She is survived by sisters-in-law, LaVanda Thompson of Wadena, IA, Eleanor Thompson of Waterloo, IA and Violet Thompson of Springfield, MO; and many nieces, nephews, grand and great grand. She was preceded in death by parents Thor and Olive Thompson; husband, Alfred Rogness; six brothers, Orvin, Tillman, Floyd, Torvald, Glen and Earl Thompson.
