NOTICE: Rock Rapids, Iowa Edward P. Weerheim, age 82 of Rock Rapids, IA died Wednesday, November 8, 2006 at the Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids with Rev. Dan Haggar and Rev. Katie Van Veldhuizen, officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery of Rock Rapids. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at the Roste Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. Edward P. Weerheim was born on April 25, 1924, the son of Phillip and Marie (Brands) Weerheim in Harrison, SD. He attended country school thru the eighth grade. On February 14, 1952, he was united in marriage to Arlo Hoogeveen in Lester, IA. The couple farmed and Ed sold seed for Pioneer Seed Company for twenty-eight years and drove school bus for ten years. Ed was a member of the First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids for 60 some years. He was a member of the Fair Association for twenty-two years. Ed managed the fairground for many years. He was on the first Heritage Days Planning Committee. He was a 4-H Leader. Ed enjoyed woodworking and crafts, including clocks, picture frames, jewelry Christmas trees, but was always willing to drop everything and help all of his children. Deer hunting was also a favorite of Ed's. Playing, umpiring and organizing the fastpitch softball leaque in Rock Rapids was an family event for many years. Surviving is his wife of fifty-four years, Arlo Weerheim of Rock Rapids; four children, Bonnie Nail of Rock Rapids, Curtis (wife Sherri) Weerheim of East Asia Carol Stellinga of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Ken Stellinga of Sioux Falls, S.D.;and Dennis (wife Theresa) Weerheim of Hawarden, IA; nine grandchildren; Casey Weerheim (wife Jen) of Davenport, IA; Ranita Nail; Corrie and Davis Weerheim, of East Asia; Nick Stellinga, Sheldon, IA; Kate Goddard (husband James) of TN; Kayla Weeheim, Sioux City, IA; Rachel and Dana Weerheim, Hawarden, IA; one step grandchild; Justin Nail (wife Jessica) Cedar Rapids, IA; one great grandchild and one step great grandchild; one sister, Johanna Dyk of Platte, S.D.; and three brothers, Mike Weerheim of Rock Rapids, Ralph Weerheim of Rock Rapids and Richard Weerheim of Platte, S.D.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Phil Weerheim and Arthur Weerheim and two sisters, Josephine Ringling and Catherine Van Den Bos.
