Sibley, IA Lena Kadous, age 102 of Sibley, IA died Monday, September 9, 2013 at the Sibley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Sibley, IA. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 12th at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Sibley. Burial will follow at the Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley. Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 12th from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service at Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley. Lena Kadous was born on March 13, 1911, the daughter of E.O. Ed and Anna Christina (Krull) Engelkes. She grew up by Cloverdale, IA and attended country school there. Lena worked as a hired girl taking care of different families in the area. On April 17, 1939, Lena was united in marriage to John Kadous in Sioux Falls, SD. She was a member of the First Reformed Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and she was a Gold Star Mother. Lena enjoyed quilting, gardening, canning and fishing. She had a love for cats often feeding all of the strays in the neighborhood. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Lena is survived by one son, Donald (Maureen) Kadous of Spencer, IA; two stepchildren, Calvin Kelly Kadous of Tucson, AZ and Lavonne (Richard) Balt of Sanborn, IA; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Kadous; son, Daryl Kadous; step-son, Delbert Kadous; three brothers, Omke, Albert and Henry Engelkes; and one sister, Dena Engelkes.
