Verlyn Kellenberger

Lester, IA Verlyn Bur Dean Kellenberger, age 62, of Lester, IA, died Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at the Hospice Cottage in Luverne, MN. Funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Monday, Sept. 12th at the Apostolic Christian Church in Lester, IA. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation, with family present, will be Sunday, September 11th from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and again from 6:00 " 8:00 p.m. at the Apostolic Christian Fellowship Hall in Lester. Jurrens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Verlyn Bur Dean Kellenberger was born December 28, 1948, in Rock Rapids, IA, to Henry & Elaine (Grimm) Kellenberger. Verlyn attended Lester Public & West Lyon Community High School and graduated in 1967. He joined the South Dakota National Air Guard working as sheet metalist on planes serving from 1967-1974. He married Linda Doorneweerd on July 17, 1971, and together they had four children. They began farming in 1974 and farmed in the Lester, Rock Rapids, & Hills, MN area with his brother LeRoy. Verlyn started trucking with his brother-in-law, Butch, in 1993 and liked to keep his semi rolling. He made many friends throughout his years trucking as it wasnt hard to strike up a conversation with Bur. Many people always knew when they met Bur as his bright yellow Freightliner & friendly wave were hard to miss. Verlyn attended the Apostolic Christian Church in Lester, IA, becoming a member in 1979. Bur was a hard working, yet easy-going man who liked to treat others as he would want to be treated. He enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren & friends and in his truck. Verlyn passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at the age of 62. Surviving are his wife Linda of Lester, IA; four children: Lonn (Jammie) Kellenberger of Rock Rapids, IA; Emily (Mike) Rozeboom of Inwood, IA; Katie (Arlan) Miller of Normal, IL; and Adam (Erika) Kellenberger of Sioux Falls, SD; 6 grandchildren: Michael Walter, Macy, Maden & Mali Kellenberger, Levi Rozeboom, & Haven Miller; 3 sisters: Rosella (Bob) Metzger of Lester, IA; Connie (Doug) Bergstrom of Lakeville, MN; Susie (Doug) Messner of Eagan, MN; 6 brothers: Dennis (Shirley) Kellenberger of Steen, MN; LeRoy (Lou) Kellenberger of Sioux Falls, SD; Calvin (Edna) Kellenberger of Lester, IA; Brad (Theresa) Kellenberger of Sabetha, KS; Curt (Martha) Kellenberger of Lamar, MO; Ladell (Shelly) Kellenberger of Lester, IA. Verlyn was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 1 niece, 1 nephew and several in-laws.
