NOTICE: Rock Rapids, IA David Stewart, age 86 of Rock Rapids, IA died Friday, November 20, 2009 at Sanford Hospital of Rock Rapids. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Monday, November 23, 2009 at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids with Rev. Anita Bane officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids. Visitation will also be Monday, November 23, from 12:00 noon until the hour of service at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. David is survived by his children, daughters, Barbara Vogel, Sandra (Stan) Hinsch, Linda Trei; and son, Ron (Michele) Stewart all of Rock Rapids, IA. David Stewart was born July 2, 1923, in Rock Rapids to Walter and Bertha (Davisson) Stewart. David helped his dad with the familys dray service delivering coal and raising cattle. David graduated from Wilson High School in Rock Rapids. He was united in marriage to Lorene Busch on August 12, 1945, in Luverne, Minnesota. The couple farmed near Rock Rapids until 1960 when David and Lorene sold the farm and moved into town. He then worked for his brother, Kenneth, at Stewart Construction. Due to health problems, David was forced to retire in 1969. David was a talented person, always willing to share his talents by helping others. He loved his children and grandchildren very much, and enjoyed playing cards and games with them. He was a very pleasant and helpful grandfather. Besides playing cards, David liked to read, do woodworking, and always had a large vegetable garden. When it came harvest time, he was very generous, always sharing the fruits of his labor. Dinner date was also important to David, who was a regular there, helping however he could. He was an enjoyable man to be around and had a wonderful, dry sense of humor. David was truly a gentleman and will be missed by many. This past Friday, David Stewart passed away at Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids, at the age of 86. David is survived by his children: daughters, Barbara Vogel, Sandra (Stan) Hinsch, Linda Trei; and son, Ron (Michele) Stewart, all of Rock Rapids, IA; eight grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; sister Betty Kumba of Rock Rapids, brother, Gene Stewart of Cedar Rapids, and sister, June Waagmeester of Rock Rapids; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Lorene; son, James Stewart; sister, Viva Warren; brothers, Robert Stewart, Kenneth Stewart, Charles Stewart; and sister, Eloise Wagner.
