Sibley, Iowa Esther Augusta Rose, age 99 of Sibley, IA died Monday, July 28, 2008 at Country View Manor in Sibley, IA. Funeral service will be 3:00 PM, Friday, August 1, 2008 at the United Church of Christ Congregational in Sibley, with Pastor Larry Laskie officiating. Burial will follow at the Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley. Visitation will be Friday, August 1st, from 1:30 PM until time of service at the United Church of Christ Congregational. The Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley is handling arrangements. Esther Augusta LaCour was born September 14, 1908 in rural Sibley. She passed away on Monday, July 28th at Country View Manor in Sibley. Her parents were Fred and Laura Kruger LaCour. She grew up on the farm south of Sibley and attended Country School Holman # 15. She married Leonard Rose on February 15, 1928 at which time they moved to the farm south of Sibley where they resided until she moved to Sibley in November of 1994. To this union, two children were born, Betty J. of Huntsville Texas and Robert L. of Spencer. She was a typical farmers wife, doing the daily chores, feeding and caring for the chickens and helping with the milking. She was a practical gardener, producing fruits and vegetables for canning and freezing. She was an excellent cook producing wonderful meals for threshers or corn shellers or whatever farm operation required feeding the men. Her meals were legend in quality and quantity. In later years she maintained her flock of laying hens in order to provide fresh eggs for her many customers. She was always available to help a neighbor or friend, an active member of First Congregational Church in Sibley where she taught a Sunday School Class for many years. She was a concerned and caring mother and grandmother, always willing to assist her family in time of need. She is survived by her brother, August and wife, Phyllis LaCour of Sibley, daughter Betty J. Elvin of Huntsville, Texas, son Robert L. and wife Kayleen of Spencer, eight grand children, Jeffrey R. Rose and wife Debra, of Kansas City, husband of Jonee, Jim Broughton of Brandon, South Dakota, James P. Rose and wife Pamela of Mt. Dora, Florida, Brian Elvin and wife Norma of Huntsville, Texas, Julie Gibbs and husband Donald of Huntsville, Texas, Connie Elvin of Eugene, Oregon ands Kris Godfrey and husband Larry of Davis, California; and five great grand children, two great great-grand children, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Laura LaCour, her husband Leonard, her brother Charles, son-in-law Bob Elvin and granddaughter Jonee Rose Broughton.
