Gertrude Zwikker

Sibley, Iowa Gertrude Zwikker, age 92, of Sibley, died Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at the Country View Manor Nursing Home in Sibley, IA. Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M., Saturday, March 17th, at the First Reformed Church in Sibley, with Reverend Gary Van Heukelom officiating. Burial will follow in the Holman Township Cemetery of Sibley. Visitation will be Friday, March 16th, from 2 " 8:00 P.M. with family present from 6 " 8:00 P.M at the Walton-Roste Funeral Home of Sibley. Gertrude Zwikker was born on August 30, 1914, the daughter of Gerrit and Tillie (Feenstra) De Jong, on the family farm in Orange City, Iowa. She attended the Christian school thru the fifth grade and Country school thru the eighth grade in Floyd Township, OBrien County. On July 2, 1934, she married Gerrit Zwikker in Detroit, Michigan. They lived on the farm west of Sibley from 1935 until moving into town in 1971. They enjoyed visiting family in Holland several times and wintering in Florida after retirement. Gertrude was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sibley, where she was very active with the library and in the womens group. She was also involved with the West Holman Rural Homemakers and later the Osceola County Farm Bureau women. She was an avid reader, loved playing piano, knitting and embroidery. She is survived by two daughters: Mary Ann (husband Michael) Hustoft of Sibley and Kathleen Mae Vande Hoef of Sibley; five grandchildren: Michelle (husband Dean) Ackerman of Sibley, Teresa May of Glenview, IL, Calvin (wife Gloria) Vande Hoef of Inver Grove Heights, MN, Renee Vande Hoef of Downingtown, Pennsylvania and Samantha Meeker of Sibley; three great-grandchildren; six siblings: Hessel (wife Anna) De Jong of Rock Rapids, Jennie Engelkes of Benson, MN, Louisa Jacobsma of Bigelow, MN, Gerrit Jr. (Erma) De Jong of Sibley, Tillie (husband Wilbur) Rook of Rock Valley, IA and Arnold De Jong of Sioux City, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gerrit in 1973 and six siblings, Tracie Plantinga, Trina Mouw, Dick De Jong, Effie Faber, Frank De Jong and Jacob De Jong.
