Brandon, SD Donald N. Sohl, age 82 of Brandon, SD formerly of Hull, IA died Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Dow Rummel Village in Sioux Falls, SD. Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 19, 2014 at the Dow Rummel Village Chapel in Sioux Falls, SD with Rev. Tim Worthington officiating. Inurnment will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Hull, IA. Family will be greeting guests one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Dow Rummel Chapel Monday morning. Donald Sohl was born the third of six boys born to Elise and Paul Sohl of Hull, IA. Don was raised on the Sohl family farm, and was a regular member of St. Paul Lutheran church in Hull. He graduated as a part of the Hull High School Class of 1949. Don proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. After he was discharged from the Army, Don moved to the Minneapolis, MN area. There he was the father to two boys, Michael and Steven. Don continued to live in the Minneapolis are, where he loved to garden, fish, play cards, and golf. No squirrel was safe if they dared to enter Dons back yard. In 1992, Don found his most joyful place when he married Karen. Together they lived a blessed life first in Excelsior, MN, moving to Lacey, WA, and finally moving back near Dons original Iowa roots, to Brandon, SD. As Don became ill, he moved to the Dow Rummel Village in Sioux Falls, where he was well cared for and well loved until the end, his wife Karen at his constant side. Don now is able to reunite with those who have preceded him in Heaven; his parents, Paul and Elise; his son Michael; and his nephew Kevin Sohl. He is survived by his wife Karen; his son, Steven and his wife Beth; Karens 2 children, Steven Morris and Cindy Vaske and their spouses, Erin and Chris; 8 grandchildren, Aaron, Carson, Cooper, Clara, Alivia, Delaney, Steph, and Celi; one great-grandchild; his 5 wonderful brothers and their equally wonderful wives, Robert and Verna, Alvin and Arlene, Kenneth and Elaine, Harold and Darlene, and Lawrence and Kathi; numerous nephews and nieces and families; and many others who loved and will miss Dons wonderful sense of humor and his caring ways.
